My little man is not so little anymore. I haven't been doing the best job of documenting and recording all of the cute that is is my now *sob* three year old. I'm not actually sad that he's getting bigger. I'm so pleased with the little boy he's becoming and honestly don't want to have to deal with diapers everyday for the rest of my life, but I do mourn for the fleeting moments of his babyhood that are rapidly becoming more of a memory. Before this gets too sappy, let's get to the good stuff. Happy Birthday, kiddo bug.
Mom, Dad, and Cathy came for dinner on his birthday and Nathan couldn't have been more satisfactory about his cake. After blowing out his candles he basically shoved his face into it for a lick and grabbed a cherry from the top. I'm gonna call it. It was adorable.
Favorite toys: trucks, trucks, and fire trucks. Also, playing house, cooking with Mom, playing in the sandbox, pretending anything. He likes books, especially at bedtime.
Other Likes: Running, singing/humming, playing with chalk, Legos (when he can get his hands on them), play dough, digging in the dirt, and Vivian (most of the time).
Dislikes: Art projects, having his picture taken, waiting in lines, and really loud/crowded places.
Knows: Pretty much all of his letters (probably a 80% success rate), colors, and numbers. He loves singing and knows lots of songs. He actually can carry a tune pretty well. I'm probably missing things here, but let's just say I'm not worried he's behind other kids his age.
Cute thing: One of his self soothing things at bedtime is "making houses." He pinches the sheet/pillowcase into a teepee of fabric and pushes it down. For a long while I would see him playing with the sheet while he fell asleep but didn't know what he was doing. He would reference making houses periodically and we all just chalked it up to weird toddler stuff until I asked him to show me. Now he'll ask me if I want to make houses with him at bedtime. I hope this never ends.

Nathan: "No, sorry. It's my day off."
Me asking him to do something, he sometimes goes from running to a snail's pace, hunches over, and says, "I can't, my legs/arms/hands are too tired."
"Stay with me for a big minute."
Lying in bed with him during bedtime (probably stalling):
Nathan: "Mom, I just love you so much. (hug) Let me pet your arm."
Seconds later. "I forgot to tell you something. We saw a truck yesterday."
Me: "Oh, really?"

N: "Yeah, it was a bucket truck and there was a man in it. I was controlling it and making it go up and up. (hand motions of truck controls) Brrrrmmmmm. And there was a broken light and we fixed it!"
Me: "Wow! Nice work. Ok, now it's time to go night night." - killed me to have to say that and stop the flow of his imagination.
