Strawberry Picking

When I started this post earlier today, I was on a plane to Seattle for a work trip and posting about our adventures in strawberry picking over the last couple weeks. Nathan and I were up at 6:30 on a Sunday morning. Since the local strawberry farm, Rowe's, opens at 7 AM we figured we might as well beat the crowds. Thankfully we also be a thunderstorm that resulted in impressive flooding in Ann Arbor.

We managed to pick 18 lbs. of beautiful, ripe, and totally delicious strawberries between the two of us (I say Nathan picked about half a pound and ate two. There was a reason I dressed him in all red. There was mud from earlier storms which meant that Nathan was in heaven searching for every mud puddle he could find and running up and down the rows of strawberry plants. Go for it, dude! I could see his red for miles. It was really nice to get some one on one time with my guy. When I asked Nathan, "Did we have fun or what?" he said, "what." Stinker.

On Father's Day, I took both kids to give Brian a morning off, and they were total troopers. We got more strawberries for strawberry shortcake, and we also picked some sugar snap peas for dinner. I thought I took a few photos with my phone, but I can't seem to find them. I'll admit that my hands were pretty full trying to handle both kids and harvest produce. At least 3 people made comments about how I was impressive/insane. They may have been right, but we had a delicious Father's Day dinner, and the kids had a great time. One of my favorite things about where we live is being able to show the kids this kind of thing. To this day, I find a field of wheat one of the most beautiful sights in the world. I don't want to get all mushy, but I really do love seeing them get excited about driving up to a farm.

Family photo outtakes

We had some professional photos taken yesterday to try and capture this moment in time and the kids' personalities right now. Of course I brought my camera too -- just in case. Vivian was in rare form with smiles and goof. Nathan was a little harder to sell on the whole idea of sitting still in one place and listening closely to all instructions. Really, I think he's just a 3 year old boy. I do think the professional photographer was able to do a little better than I did, but these make me pretty happy. We'll see them in a few weeks!

Mom came by to help wrangle folks and appeared at the perfect moment with a few peonies that turned things around a bit for Nathan's mood. Thank you, Mom! How cute are my people?

After we got home and had some dinner we went out to the front yard to run around a little bit. It's become our routine lately with this beautiful weather, so it was fun to capture some of the cuteness in nice clothes.

Vivian at 12 months

This girl. She's a delight.

At her 1 year check up her stats were:
Height: 30 3/4 inches - 90th %
Weight: 20 lbs. - 50th %

She's a total goof that is definitely starting to test boundaries and break the rules. She beelines to the stairs when she sees them unblocked and is starting the age-old stage of food throwing. We're doing our best to nip that in the bud. Wish us luck! She imitates almost everything Nathan does, for better and worse. Thankfully he's starting to take his role of mentor very seriously and usually very willing to, "show Vivian how to do x."

She's got some words and while she's selective when she uses them, I love hearing her voice. I know I'm missing some words, but here's a working list I will update as I think of more:

Dada
Mama
Nay (Nathan)
Uh oh
Yay/Yeah
Ba (bottle)
Ba (ball)
Daaaaa (down)
HI
Papa
Nan/Non
Bye
More
Night Night (nigh nigh)
Thank you

She loves to dance and will do this for at least 10 minutes straight when no one is paying much attention. I am so glad I got it on video!

I also love watching her sleep.
