Herpangina

This one is new to me. What started out as a fever of 101.8F on Wednesday turned into 104F at 3:30am Thursday morning. Let's just say it's scary when the thermometer doesn't actually give you a number, just blinks red and beeps rapidly. He was a furnace so I gave him Motrin, got him to drink some milk and packed him up for the ER. Turns out our guy has Herpangina which is caused by the same virus that causes hand, foot, and mouth disease. It is usually seen with open sores in the back of the throat and high fever. Sweet!

He didn't drink much Thursday, or really show much interest in food so at the risk of looking like a crazy parent I asked if Angela or Ted could come over and take. a look. Poor Angela had already worked a full day and still came over to give us some tips on keeping him hydrated (can't blame him for not wanting to drink, what with open sores all over his throat).  Friday was still rough, but today he's feeling MUCH better, cooler, happier, and generally willing not to be carried everywhere.
